A Year In (A Few) Pictures

Oh, 2016, you've certainly not been everyone's friend and you haven't exactly been a favourite of all my 25 years on this planet. I don't need to go in to detail about the perils of 2016 (this video sums it up in a brilliant and ruddy hilarious way), but it's been a year that's made me incredibly confused and angry at times, it provoked me to question a lot, and also got me to appreciate being in such a fortunate position. As put so beautifully and eloquently by Liv, the utter babe behind the wonderful What Olivia Did It, 'it's important to look out for others, support people where you can and ultimately try and make an effort to understand and learn- because I'm pretty sure that's how change begins'. *Long, contented sigh*, what a quote - it's so true.

It felt like the world was full of bad news (even though I know some amazing things still went down this year!), but in this little roundup, I'm going to focus on some of the things I was lucky enough to celebrate. From trips, travels, focusing on friends and family and working my 'no she definitely doesn't squat' bum off, I've packed as much as I could into 365 days.

I completely admit (and have confessed many times this year!) that the blogging slipped slightly. Instead of posting at least once a week without fail, it slipped to posting every two weeks, and even that required even more motivation at times. It's not that I don't still love it (because I do!), it's that I got a whole lot busier. I landed my dream job which began in May, and since then I've been super focused on that. This was probably my highlight so being busy is ok! After working so hard and having many a little (or humungous) cry at the thought of never being able to do what I wanted to do, I got my break and I adore what I do now. That alone is pretty special, but I also got to see a few cool places in between too!

Clothes and things

I tried to experiment more with my outfits this year. I would do anything to look like Megan or Faye Ellaby (seriously, they just nail it every time), so I'm working my way up to somewhere near their uber-chic realm. I love fashion and I buy way too many clothes, but I know I'm not one of those super-stylish folk who just throws things on and rocks it regardless- but maybe one day! I want to wear more of what I want to wear and this year was the beginning of that. I took a few more risks but still kept in my comfort zone. Maybe in 2017 I'll break the mould a bit more.

Ticked some travel off the list

At the beginning of the year, I fell in love with the cool, scandi style of life in Copenhagen. Not only are the people lovely and the sights beautiful, but they have some pretty sweet cafes over there too! A trip to Lisbon followed in the summer and did not disappoint. The tiles, the colours and the gorgeous (albeit, very very hot) sun equated to it being a bloomin' dream destination. I also got to grab some winter sun in Santorini. It truly is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It was a magical week, full of relaxation, a little exploring and taking many, many photos of the picturesque white and blue villages. And in between all of this, came a couple of trips to Dublin with work! I still need to take the time to properly explore that city. Watch this space, 2017!

I took a photography course!

This was so much fun! Whoever thought going back to school could be so great?! I enjoyed every minute of these evening classes and learned so much. I still have a long way to go with photography, but I was proud of myself for taking this step and striving to learn more about what I'm passionate about. It was an inspiring and motivating class so I really want to focus on improving my photos so much further in the new year!

I've set myself a few New Year's resolutions for 2017, so I look forward to ticking them off and documenting them on this here blog along the way! Hope everyone has an amazing weekend celebrating!

Feline Festive

Coat: Mango (similar) // Jumper: H&M // Skirt: Asos // Boots: Primark // Bag: H&M (similar)

Feline/cat, cat/leopard, feline/feelin', geddit?! Ok, maybe my punny titles are a bit of a stretch sometimes...

YES Mango-leopard-print-coat-of-dreams-that's-actually-from-last-season-but-just-keeps-on-giving. A big, fat yes to you indeed. I wear this coat at least three days out of a week and it is a solid favourite. It just adds that little somethin' somethin' to any outfit.

For a day of Christmas shopping, I wanted to get a little festive. Not in an obvious, crazy Christmas jumper kinda way, but in a chic, 'Christmas day outfit'-esque kinda way - cue this Asos pleated skirt of dreams. I love the flowy Asos midi-skirts; so handy for a day-to-night situ and ideal for work. Teamed with a H&M grey knit, I was good to go. A simple, easy to wear and suitably smart casj look ready for battling the crowds, but also ready for an end of day congratulatory cocktail for ticking off that Christmas shopping list (well, mostly anyway...). I also absolutely need to shout out these incredible Primark boots. I've had a lot of compliments courtesy of these bad boys and I reckon they look a little bit more premium than their £12 price tag!

With only a few days left to go, I'm very much looking forward to Christmas Day. I can't wait to eat all the food, spend more time in PJs than any other item of clothing and to get together with my nearest and dearest. Have a good'n everyone!

Denim Jacket Dream

 Head-to-toe Primark!

Last week, Ben and I headed to London to do all manner of Christmassy things (and to eat all the food...). Included in our festive day was a visit to Somerset House to go ice skating. I hadn't been ice skating in years and I'd never actually been to Somerset House before either! I'd heard how pretty it was and it didn't disappoint. I may do a little festive post later on to share some piccies!

The weather has been very chilly of late, but on Friday last week it actually got a little milder. This meant I could get away with wearing my favourite denim jacket (with lots of layers underneath of course!). This jacket actually has the most amazing embroidered back (which you can see here!), but I thought I'd stick to taking photos of the outfit from the front this time around. I know I'm biased, but Primark really are smashing it lately on the fashion front! There's so much I want right now. I'm lucky enough to get to see new lines regularly within my role, which means I'm continually adding them to my shopping list!

I teamed the jacket with a staple scarf. It's reversible - a tartan print on the one side and a monochrome check on the other. I reckon these must be the BEST type of prints for a winter scarf as they go with all kinds of coats and are the ultimate classics. I went for simple black skinny jeans and the comfiest boots of ALL time to round off the look - walking around for hours and hours meant I needed to be comfy!

After last week, I've now got full-on festive fever and am getting even more excited for the main event! Roll on the Christmas parties, wrapping pressies and eating LOTS of food!
